Seven Torres Vedras Wineries to Host Exclusive Tastings for World Wine Tourism Day on November 9

Wine producers in Torres Vedras, Portugal, are preparing to open their doors to visitors on November 9 for World Wine Tourism Day. Seven wineries along the Torres Vedras Wine Tourism Route will participate in the event, offering guided tours, tastings, and other activities designed to showcase the region’s wine culture.

World Wine Tourism Day was first established in 2009 by the European Network of Wine Cities (RECEVIN). In 2019, it expanded to a global celebration with the creation of the World Association of Wine Tourism (AMETUR). The day aims to promote wine tourism and highlight the cultural and economic importance of wine regions around the world.

This year, the participating producers in Torres Vedras include Adega Mãe, Quinta da Boa Esperança, Adega Cooperativa da Carvoeira, João Melícias – Fonte das Moças, Adega Cooperativa de São Mamede da Ventosa, Quinta da Almiara, and Caves Barbosa. Each winery has planned a unique program for visitors.

At Adega Mãe, guests can join a guided tour followed by a tasting of three wines. The visit is limited to ten people and will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Quinta da Boa Esperança will welcome visitors with a tour of its winemaking facilities and barrel room, followed by a walk through the vineyards. The experience ends with a guided tasting session. This visit is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with space for fifteen participants.

Adega Cooperativa da Carvoeira will host an activity at its winery that includes wine tastings and entertainment from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., also for up to fifteen people. João Melícias – Fonte das Moças offers a guided tour and wine tasting from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with ten spots available.

At Adega Cooperativa de São Mamede da Ventosa, visitors will learn about the history of the cooperative and follow the journey of grapes from vineyard to bottle. The tour concludes with a tasting of several wines produced at the facility. This visit runs from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., accommodating fifteen guests.

Quinta da Almiara will provide guided tours of its cellars along with tastings of three wines between 10:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., for up to fifteen people. Caves Barbosa plans several sessions throughout the day—at 11:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m.—each limited to ten participants. Their program includes visits to nearby vineyards (weather permitting), tours of the winery, and tastings of regional sweets such as pastel de feijão and uvada, as well as local cheeses and cured meats.

All visits require advance registration directly with each producer. Organizers note that programs may be updated as needed.

The event provides an opportunity for both locals and tourists to experience the diversity of wines produced in Torres Vedras and learn more about the traditions behind them. The region is known for its long history of winemaking and its role in Portugal’s broader wine industry. By opening their doors on World Wine Tourism Day, these producers hope to strengthen connections with visitors and promote greater appreciation for their craft.
