Marche Wine Production Set for Significant Growth in 2025 Amid Favorable Conditions

Wine production in the Marche region is expected to rise significantly in 2025, according to estimates presented by Assoenologi, Ismea, and the Unione Italiana Vini (Uiv) at the Ministry of Agriculture. The organizations report that the quality of this year’s harvest is considered between “very good and excellent,” a result attributed to favorable weather conditions that have helped achieve a strong balance in both grapes and musts.

Forecasts indicate an 18 percent increase in wine production compared to last year. The region is projected to produce 834,000 hectoliters of wine in 2025, up from 710,000 hectoliters in 2024. This growth places Marche as the fifth fastest-growing region in Italy for wine production this year.

The grape harvest began at the end of August for early-ripening varieties such as Chardonnay and Pecorino. For other key local wines, including Verdicchio di Matelica and Castelli di Jesi, the harvest is expected to be delayed by about ten and seven days respectively. Red grape varieties, especially Montepulciano, are following a similar schedule.

The report highlights that the climate has been particularly favorable throughout the growing season. Large temperature swings between day and night have helped preserve acidity and aromas in the grapes. The associations note that there were no significant outbreaks of disease or water stress during the season. The grapes are described as healthy, with well-formed clusters supported by rainfall distributed evenly over the summer months, which did not cause any phytosanitary issues.

Producers in Marche are optimistic about both the quantity and quality of this year’s vintage. The combination of healthy vines, balanced fruit development, and ideal weather conditions has set high expectations for wines from this region in 2025. The positive outlook comes at a time when many Italian wine regions are facing challenges related to climate change and shifting market demands. For Marche, this year’s harvest could strengthen its position within Italy’s competitive wine industry.
