APPIUS: A new decade begins

St. Michael-Eppan Winery has announced the release of APPIUS 2020, marking the eleventh edition of its prestigious wine series. This vintage inaugurates a new decade for the Alto Adige-based winery, showcasing a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. The 2020 vintage, crafted under challenging weather conditions marked by fluctuating temperatures and rainfall, embodies the winery's dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality.

APPIUS 2020 reflects meticulous attention to detail, from vineyard selection to cellar processes. The wine underwent alcoholic fermentation, limited malolactic fermentation, and aging in barriques and tonneaux. After one year, it was blended and aged on the lees for three additional years in stainless steel tanks. This process ensures a harmonious expression of the terroir and highlights the vintage's distinctive character.

The wine presents a vibrant chartreuse-yellow color with greenish reflections, offering a visually striking appearance. Aromas of tropical fruits, yellow-fleshed fruits, and citrus are complemented by herbal notes and secondary aromas of yeast and toasted nuts. On the palate, APPIUS 2020 stands out for its freshness, acidity, and balanced structure. These characteristics enhance its versatility in food pairings, making it an ideal match for dishes featuring fatty fish, white meats, mushrooms, and couscous.

Since its inception with the 2010 vintage, APPIUS has grown to become a symbol of creativity and precision. Each edition features a unique bottle design, with the 2020 label incorporating golden geometric patterns and textured motifs. These artistic elements contribute to the wine's collectible appeal among enthusiasts.

The unveiling of APPIUS 2020 also coincides with the debut of a dedicated cellar space, designed by architect Walter Angonese. This new facility underscores the significance of APPIUS within the winery's portfolio, reflecting its stature as a benchmark for quality in winemaking. As with previous releases, APPIUS 2020 is available in limited quantities.
