Diplomático Unveils Chancellor, a $2,200 Rum Limited to Just 900 Bottles Worldwide

Diplomático, the Venezuelan rum producer known for its premium spirits, has introduced its most exclusive release to date: Chancellor. Only 900 bottles of this limited-edition rum will be available worldwide. The launch marks a significant milestone for the distillery, which has been producing rum since 1959. Chancellor is crafted from some of the oldest and most valuable reserves at Diplomático’s facilities.

The new expression is made using complex pot still rums, which are then subjected to a triple maturation process. The aging takes place in three types of casks: virgin French oak, virgin American oak, and American oak previously seasoned with rum. This careful selection and sequence of barrels is designed to impart a unique character and depth to the spirit.

According to Diplomático, the Chancellor release is intended for collectors and connoisseurs who appreciate rare and meticulously crafted spirits. Elena Petrov, Global Brand Director for Diplomático, described Chancellor as an exceptional rum that embodies the brand’s dedication to craftsmanship. She emphasized that the release is aimed at discerning tasters who value both the complexity of the liquid and the story behind it.

Chancellor’s profile begins with aromas of intense wood, dark caramel, and cured tobacco, layered with subtle spice notes. On the palate, it offers a rich and elegant fruit character reminiscent of cognac, featuring flavors of ripe peach, citrus, and vanilla. The finish is described as long, warm, and fruity.

Each bottle comes in a custom-designed decanter with an elegant and timeless look. The recommended retail price is $2,200. The first bottles became available on March 4 in the United Kingdom through The Whisky Exchange.

Diplomático rums are distributed in more than 100 countries and have received numerous international awards. In 2018, Diplomático was named “Spirit Brand of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast—the first time a rum received this honor. The distillery’s range includes both traditional offerings such as Planas, Mantuano, and Reserva Exclusiva, as well as prestige releases like Single Vintage and Ambassador.
