The United Kingdom imported less wine in 2025, with declines in both value and volume, according to British customs data analyzed by the Spanish Wine Interprofessional Organization, known as OIVE.
Total wine imports fell 6.7% in value to €4.323 billion and 6% in volume to 1.186 billion liters. The average price slipped 0.7% to €3.64 a liter.
Packaged wines, a category that includes sparkling wine, bottled still wine and bag-in-box, also moved lower. Imports in that segment dropped 6.3% in value to €3.753 billion and 3% in volume to 767.7 million liters. The average price for packaged wine fell 3.4% to €4.89 a liter.
Bulk wine posted a sharper decline in volume. Imports fell 9% in value to €569.6 million and 11.1% in volume to 418.6 million liters. Even so, the average bulk wine price rose 2.3% to €1.36 a liter.
France remained the leading supplier to the British market by value in 2025, with €1.384 billion in sales, down 8.3% from 2024. Italy ranked second with €872 million, essentially flat from a year earlier, up 0.06%.
By volume, Italy was the top supplier with 248.1 million liters, up 5.6%. Australia followed with 159 million liters, down 13.1%, while France ranked third with 145.7 million liters, down 4.8%.
Spain held fourth place among packaged wine suppliers to the United Kingdom in both value and volume. Its sales reached €312.4 million, down 9.2%, while shipments totaled 84.3 million liters, down 7.1%.
In bulk wine, Spain ranked seventh by both value and volume. Exports to the British market reached €20.54 million and 18.82 million liters in 2025.
OIVE said the main suppliers to the United Kingdom by value were France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Germany and the United States.
The figures point to a weaker British import market across most wine categories in 2025, with lower demand reflected in reduced volumes and softer prices for packaged wines, while bulk wine prices rose despite a steeper drop in shipments.
