U.S. Wine Imports Drop 11.6% in Value as Demand Weakens in 2025

Wine imports into the United States declined in 2025, according to data from U.S. Customs analyzed by the Spanish Wine Interprofessional Organization (OIVE). The total value of wine imports fell by 11.6%, reaching €5,542.3 million, while the volume dropped by 2% to 1,200.9 million liters. This decrease led to a 9.8% reduction in the average price per liter, which settled at €4.62.

The decline was seen across different product groups. Imports of bottled wines, which include sparkling, still bottled, and bag-in-box wines, decreased by 11.7% in value and 1.4% in volume compared to the previous year. The United States imported €5,314 million worth of bottled wines, totaling 866.1 million liters. The average price for bottled wine dropped by 10.5%, down to €6.14 per liter.

Bulk wine imports also saw a downturn in 2025. The value of bulk wine imported into the United States decreased by 7.6%, while the volume fell by 3.3%. In total, bulk wine imports reached €228.3 million and 334.8 million liters. The average price for bulk wine declined by 4.3%, reaching €0.68 per liter.

France and Italy remained the leading suppliers of wine to the United States by value in 2025. France supplied €2,130.4 million worth of wine, a decrease of 7.9% compared to 2024, while Italy followed with €1,807.7 million, down by 13.21%. In terms of volume, Italy was the top supplier with 352.9 million liters, a slight decrease of 0.2%. France was second in volume with 188.3 million liters, marking a notable increase of 6% from the previous year.

Canada ranked third among suppliers by volume but experienced a significant drop of 19.6%, exporting a total of 163.7 million liters to the United States in 2025.

Spain held the fourth position among suppliers of bottled wines to the U.S., both in value and volume. Spanish bottled wine exports reached €300.33 million, down by 16.4%, and totaled 63.68 million liters, a decrease of 2.8%. For bulk wine, Spain ranked eighth in both value (€1.65 million) and volume (1.66 million liters).

Other major suppliers to the U.S., based on import value in 2025, included New Zealand, Australia, Argentina, Chile, Portugal and Germany.

The overall decline in U.S. wine imports during 2025 affected both value and volume across most major supplying countries and product categories. The drop in average prices for both bottled and bulk wines reflected broader market adjustments as demand softened and competition among exporters increased throughout the year.
