Barcelona Wine Week (BWW) has concluded its fifth edition with record-breaking figures, solidifying its position as the leading international platform for Spanish wine exports. Held from February 3 to 5 at Fira de Barcelona, the event brought together 1,266 wineries from 81 Designations of Origin, attracting nearly 25,700 industry professionals, 20% of whom were international. For the first time, the exhibition occupied two halls, reflecting the event's growth and increasing industry demand.

Over the three-day event, BWW facilitated more than 13,000 business meetings between exhibitors and key buyers, including a thousand major national distributors and over 770 strategic importers from key markets such as the United States, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, China, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Colombia, and South Korea. Thanks to collaboration with ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones, BWW has strengthened its role as a crucial hub for the internationalization of Spanish wine. Additionally, the fair is estimated to have generated an economic impact of approximately 17 million euros for the city of Barcelona.

Javier Pagés, president of BWW and the D.O. Cava, emphasized that the event has confirmed its status as the premier commercial showcase for Spanish wine, attracting both national and international buyers while reinforcing its unique trade fair concept. With this success, the organization is already preparing for the 2026 edition, which will maintain the two-hall format and take place from February 2 to 4 next year.

This year, nearly 360,000 glasses of wine were served in tastings organized by major wineries as well as small and medium-sized producers grouped under various Designations of Origin and other quality labels. The most represented regions included Ribera del Duero, D.O.Ca. Rioja, D.O.Q. Priorat, and D.O. Cava, followed by Rías Baixas, Navarra, Rueda, Montsant, V.T. Mallorca, Penedès, and D.O.P. Jumilla.

The event's program featured over 70 experts, including sommeliers, critics, and Masters of Wine, who analyzed key industry trends and opportunities in more than 150 tastings and presentations. Topics covered included the revival of old vines, the wine sector's adaptation to climate change, and the growing popularity of white wines. Notable speakers included renowned Masters of Wine such as Fernando Mora, Doug Frost, Sarah Jane Evans, and Pedro Ballesteros.

BWW was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food; ICEX España Exportación e Inversiones; the Catalan Tourism Agency; INCAVI-Prodeca; the Spanish Wine Federation; and the Interprofessional Organization of Wine in Spain. It also received backing from Cajamar, a leading cooperative bank in the Spanish financial sector.

The fair has once again demonstrated its ability to boost Spanish wine exports, facilitating high-level business connections and positioning the country's wine production in key global markets. With its continued growth and establishment as a must-attend event on the industry calendar, BWW reinforces its role as the premier business and promotional platform for Spanish wineries.
