Oenodia and IOC Unveil Joint Innovations as Global Sparkling Wine Market Faces Climate Pressures

Oenodia, a company known for its eco-friendly wine technology, has joined forces with the Institut Œnologique de Champagne (IOC) and will present their latest innovations together at VITeff 2025. The event, which focuses on effervescent wine technology, will take place from October 14 to 16, 2025, at the Millesium exhibition center in Épernay, France. Both companies will share Stand A3 in Hall Services, marking the first time they have presented as a unified team.

The partnership comes after Oenodia was acquired by the IOC earlier this year. Oenodia, originally based in Pertuis in the Vaucluse region of France, will continue its operations there, while its North American business has been transferred to Scott Laboratories in California. The merger is part of a broader strategy to expand Oenodia’s reach through IOC’s established distribution networks and to strengthen its presence in key sparkling wine markets worldwide.

Yannick Le Gratiet, director of Oenodia, described the IOC as the company’s “new home.” He emphasized that the collaboration aims to accelerate the adoption of Oenodia’s solutions among wine producers facing the challenges of climate change. Rising pH and alcohol levels in grapes, driven by changing weather patterns, are creating new risks for wine stability and flavor. Le Gratiet said that Oenodia’s technologies, which focus on stabilizing, filtering, adjusting pH, and controlling alcohol, are designed to address these issues and complement the IOC’s broader range of products and services.

The global market for Champagne and sparkling wines remains strong, but producers are under pressure to adapt quickly to environmental changes, evolving consumer preferences, and uncertainties in international trade. These topics are expected to be central at VITeff 2025, which is the only international trade fair dedicated exclusively to sparkling wine technologies. This year’s edition will host more than 150 companies from across the winemaking and export sectors, attracting buyers and industry professionals from around the world.

The IOC is also marking its 120th anniversary this year. Founded officially in 1905, with roots going back to 1890, the IOC has played a pioneering role in the development of oenological yeasts and winemaking expertise. Today, it employs 200 people—including 50 oenologists—operates ten laboratories in France, and is active in 57 countries. The company holds several certifications, including FSSC 22000 and Cofrac.

Thomas Leclère, Director General of the IOC, said that the anniversary gives special significance to their participation at VITeff. He highlighted the IOC’s commitment to supporting winemakers throughout the entire production process, from grape to bottle. Leclère also noted that the addition of Oenodia’s equipment and expertise strengthens the IOC’s ability to offer comprehensive solutions for sparkling wine producers.

At VITeff 2025, the joint stand will feature new products and technologies aimed at helping producers improve wine quality while addressing environmental and economic challenges. The collaboration between Oenodia and the IOC reflects a broader trend in the wine industry toward innovation and adaptation as producers respond to changing conditions both in the vineyard and in global markets.
