Prosecco DOC production reached a record 667 million bottles in 2025, according to data released by the Prosecco DOC Consortium based in Treviso, Italy. This figure marks a 1.1% increase over 2024 and confirms Prosecco DOC’s status as the world’s best-selling Italian sparkling wine. The growth comes despite a year marked by global economic uncertainty, inflation, shifting customs duties, and pressures on consumer spending.
Giancarlo Guidolin, President of the Prosecco DOC Consortium, credited the achievement to the coordinated efforts of winegrowers, winemakers, and sparkling wine producers across the supply chain. “In a year of significant global economic uncertainty, our Denomination has shown remarkable resilience,” Guidolin said. He emphasized that collaboration within the industry has allowed Prosecco DOC to navigate complex international challenges with balance and foresight.
Of the total production in 2025, 606.9 million bottles were Prosecco DOC and 60.4 million were Prosecco DOC Rosé. The United States remained the leading export market for Prosecco DOC, accounting for 23.8% of total exports and posting an 8% growth rate from January to September 2025. This performance came despite ongoing volatility related to tariffs and reinforced Prosecco’s position as the preferred Italian sparkling wine among American consumers.
Other key export markets included the United Kingdom, which saw a modest increase of 1.1%, and France, which experienced significant growth of 21.1%, moving ahead of Germany in total imports. Greece and Mexico also recorded strong gains at 22.4% and 14.5%, respectively. Some markets did see contraction due to specific geopolitical and economic factors.
The Consortium’s promotional efforts in 2025 spanned 39 countries with a total of 382 events, generating an estimated 2.1 billion impressions worldwide. In the United States, National Prosecco Week USA involved nearly 2,000 points of sale and reached over 258 million impressions, reflecting growing popularity among American consumers.
Looking ahead to 2026, Prosecco DOC will serve as the Official Sparkling Wine Sponsor of the Milan Cortina Olympic and Paralympic Games, providing a global platform to showcase Italian wine excellence and its connection to regional heritage.
Guidolin noted that challenges remain for the coming year but outlined plans to consolidate Prosecco DOC’s value, ensure fair profitability across the supply chain, and continue sustainable practices to secure the future of the appellation. The Consortium is also expanding its Low Alcohol line (8-9% ABV) in response to increasing consumer demand for lighter products while maintaining quality standards.
The Prosecco DOC Consortium was established in 2009 to coordinate production and safeguard quality across all segments of the industry. Every bottle is marked with a State label on the neck as proof of authenticity. Since introducing the Prosecco DOC Rosé category in 2020, the Consortium has seen new areas of growth and remains committed to upholding production regulations and promoting responsible consumption worldwide.
