Collaboration highlights AAPI winemakers and supports community development, affordable housing, and cultural celebration in Chinatown neighborhoods.

The Asian Wine Association of America has been named the official wine partner for the Chinatown Community Development Center’s 48th Annual Gala, scheduled for Friday, September 19, 2025, in San Francisco. The event, titled “Courage to Welcome,” will bring together civic leaders, community advocates, and supporters to celebrate and advance the Chinatown CDC’s mission of building community and improving quality of life in Chinatown and nearby neighborhoods.

The Asian Wine Association of America (AWAA) is an organization dedicated to promoting the wines and heritage of Asian American and Asian vintners in the United States. Through advocacy, community engagement, and professional development, AWAA works to create a more inclusive wine industry and to amplify the voices of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. The association collaborates with cultural institutions, restaurants, and community groups to showcase the diversity and quality of wines produced by Asian and Asian American winemakers.

Susan R Lin, Master of Wine and President and Co-Founder of AWAA, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. She said that supporting Chinatown CDC’s initiatives with wines made by Asian and Asian-affiliated producers is an honor. Lin emphasized that the collaboration reflects AWAA’s commitment to benefiting AAPI communities and fostering broader appreciation for their contributions to wine culture.

Chinatown CDC’s annual gala is a significant event in San Francisco’s civic calendar. For nearly five decades, it has served as a platform for raising awareness and support for affordable housing, tenant rights, and community empowerment in Chinatown. The event draws attendees from across the city’s public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

At this year’s gala, AWAA winery members RD Winery, LangeTwins Winery, and Ridge Vineyards will be pouring their wines for guests. The selection aims to highlight the range and excellence of wines produced by members of the AAPI community.

The partnership between AWAA and Chinatown CDC underscores both organizations’ dedication to celebrating diversity and strengthening community ties. More information about the gala is available through Chinatown CDC’s official channels. Details about AWAA’s mission and activities can be found at awaawine.org.
