Tedeschi, the Valpolicella winery known for its red wines, is turning to a white wine called GA.RY for Mother’s Day, presenting the bottle as a springtime toast built around freshness, versatility and a family story tied closely to the estate’s history.
The wine comes from a region in northeastern Italy better known for Amarone and other structured reds, which makes GA.RY a notable departure for the producer. Tedeschi says the wine was conceived as a lively white with floral and fruit-driven aromas, a savory edge and broad food-pairing potential. The company is positioning it as an option for celebrations around Mother’s Day, when lighter dishes and outdoor meals often return to the table.
The blend combines 84% Garganega, 10% Chardonnay and 6% Rhine Riesling. Tedeschi said the grapes are harvested by hand at two different times, with Chardonnay and Riesling picked at the beginning of September and Garganega at the beginning of October. After fermentation at controlled temperatures, the wine spends about eight months aging in bottle. It is sealed with a screw cap, which the winery says helps preserve freshness and aroma.
The release also reflects the role of the Tedeschi family in the business. Antonietta, Sabrina and Riccardo Tedeschi, together with Enrico, Antonietta’s son, are now part of the company’s leadership. In describing the wine, they linked it to their mother and to the values passed down by their parents, Antonietta and Lorenzo Tedeschi, who helped guide the winery and shape its identity over time.
Tedeschi said GA.RY was designed to work across a range of meals. The winery suggested pairings that include ricotta and spinach tortelli, asparagus crepes and risotto with fresh peas. It also pointed to seafood dishes such as Catalan-style seafood salad and oven-baked branzino with seasonal vegetables. For more casual settings, it recommended lightly spiced Asian dishes including shrimp pad Thai and vegetable curry. The company said the wine can also be served as an aperitif.
The launch comes as Italian wineries continue to broaden their portfolios beyond traditional regional styles, especially with white wines aimed at younger drinkers and warmer-weather occasions. For Tedeschi, GA.RY is being presented not as a replacement for its established reds but as another expression of the estate’s work in Valpolicella, one meant to fit a holiday centered on family and shared meals.
