La Redonda Vineyards celebrates fifty years as a leader in Mexican wine and tourism

La Redonda Vineyards marked its 50th anniversary this August with a major celebration during its traditional harvest season in Ezequiel Montes, Querétaro. The winery, recognized as the largest and oldest in the state, has become a reference point for Mexican wine over the past five decades. On August 2, La Redonda hosted a special event attended by local authorities, special guests, and members of the media. The gathering highlighted the vineyard’s legacy of innovation and commitment to quality, drawing a large crowd and creating a festive atmosphere that underscored its importance in the region’s wine industry.

The 2025 Harvest Season at La Redonda began in July and continues every weekend through August. Visitors are invited to participate in Mexico’s largest grape stomping event, an activity that draws hundreds each weekend. This traditional practice marks the start of the winemaking process and has become one of the most anticipated moments for attendees, who often capture the experience in photos and videos. Admission to the festival is free, making it accessible to families, couples, and groups of friends interested in learning more about wine culture.

Throughout the harvest season, La Redonda offers a range of activities designed to engage both newcomers and seasoned wine enthusiasts. Guided tastings introduce visitors to the vineyard’s diverse portfolio, which now includes more than 35 labels across several lines such as Ruby, La Redonda, Nosotros Los Mexicanos, Univarietales, Pez Vela, Perihelio, Orlandi, and Sierra Gorda. These tastings are led by knowledgeable staff who share insights into the winemaking process and the unique characteristics of Querétaro’s terroir.

The festival atmosphere is enhanced by live music performances spanning various genres. Guests can relax on the vineyard’s green lawns or enjoy meals at Trattoria Orlandi, La Redonda’s flagship restaurant. The menu features Italian-Mexican fusion cuisine prepared with fresh ingredients sourced from the vineyard’s own gardens. Food stalls throughout the grounds offer additional options for those seeking local flavors.

La Redonda also organizes themed experiences during the harvest season. These include wine and cheese pairings, picnics among the vines, glamping nights under the stars, bike tours through the vineyards, and even themed weddings called “Vid del Amor.” Reserved tables are available for those seeking a more private experience.

Founded in 1975 by Don Vittorio Giaginto Bortoluz Perencin—a winemaker trained in Conegliano, Italy—La Redonda began as a supplier of grapes to other wineries before launching its own labels in 2003. The vineyard’s evolution reflects a deep respect for local land and a focus on sustainable practices. Today, La Redonda uses drip irrigation systems to conserve water and avoids chemical fertilizers that could harm the soil. Organic waste is composted on-site to enrich future harvests. The company also works with NGOs to promote environmental stewardship throughout Mexico.

With over one million square meters dedicated to grape production, La Redonda continues to expand its offerings while maintaining its commitment to quality and sustainability. The 50th anniversary celebrations serve not only as a tribute to its history but also as a statement of intent for the future of Querétaro wine. The ongoing harvest festival is expected to draw thousands more visitors before it concludes at the end of August, reinforcing La Redonda’s role as a leader in Mexican viticulture and tourism.
