In the hills of Chianti Classico, Vallepicciola has introduced its Pievasciata Summer Edition, a collection of four wines designed for the summer season. The winery is located in Pievasciata, a small hamlet in the municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, just a few kilometers from Siena. Vallepicciola is recognized as one of the leading estates in the region, known for balancing tradition and innovation in its winemaking.
The Pievasciata line takes its name from the village and reflects the estate’s approach to contemporary wine. The vineyards are situated between 380 and 420 meters above sea level, on soils rich in limestone, clay, galestro, and alberese. Each bottle features a label inspired by the Pieve di San Giovanni Battista, one of the oldest parish churches in Chianti.
This summer, Vallepicciola is offering four wines under the Pievasciata label: Rosato, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Rosso. The Rosato is made from Pinot Noir grapes and stands out for its bright pink color and aromas of strawberry and rose petals. It is intended as a versatile wine for aperitivo or pairing with seafood, vegetables, or pizza.
The Chardonnay presents a straw-yellow color with greenish highlights and notes of apricot and peach blossom. Its crisp palate makes it suitable for shellfish, cheeses, or vegetarian dishes. The Pinot Noir is ruby red with violet highlights and offers aromas of wild strawberry, cassis, and pomegranate. It is described as light and fresh on the palate and pairs well with seafood dishes like cacciucco or tuna tataki, as well as mushroom-based recipes.
Pievasciata Rosso is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc sourced from several estate vineyards. This wine shows deep ruby color with violet reflections and aromas of wild berries and spices. It is structured yet smooth and recommended for summer barbecues or dishes such as cured meats, tomato-based sauces, or pork loin with prunes.
Vallepicciola has also expanded its wine tourism offerings this year. New experiences include the Pinot Noir Experience and Sunset Picnic. These join existing activities like the Wine Safari—an off-road tour through the estate—and the Discovery Experience, which guides visitors through vineyards and winemaking facilities.
The estate forms part of the Fontanelle Estate hospitality brand created by the Bolfo family. This includes two five-star hotels: Hotel Le Fontanelle and The Club House. Guests can dine at three restaurants on site: La Colonna, Il Tuscanico, and Il Visibilio—the latter holding a Michelin star.
Vallepicciola’s approach this summer aims to combine wine enjoyment with tourism in Chianti Classico. The new Pievasciata line seeks to offer both locals and visitors a taste of the region’s character while providing opportunities to explore its landscape and hospitality.
