The International Organisation of Vine and Wine has opened a call for abstracts for its 47th World Congress of Vine and Wine, which will be held from Oct. 12 to 16 in Yinchuan, in China’s Ningxia region, at the invitation of the Chinese government.
The congress will run alongside the OIV’s 24th General Assembly and is expected to draw researchers, producers and specialists in viticulture, oenology, wine economics, law, health and safety. The organization said the meeting will focus on the sector’s long-term challenges under the theme “Shaping New Paradigms for the Global Vine and Wine Sector: Transforming to Meet Challenges, Innovating to Ignite Vitality, and Sustaining to Anchor a Shared Future.”
Abstracts may be submitted in four areas: viticulture, under the title “Integrated Approaches to Resilient and Sustainable Grape Production”; oenology, focused on technical innovation and adapting winemaking to the future; economy and law, centered on resilient legal and economic models in a changing market; and safety and health, which will examine production, consumption and social sustainability across the wine chain.
The deadline for abstract submissions is May 31. Final papers for accepted presentations are due Sept. 30. Submissions must be made online through the congress platform, and authors may present orally, as short presentations or as posters.
The OIV said papers will be reviewed by a reading and selection committee that will assess scientific relevance, methodological quality, originality and practical value at national or international level. Authors will be notified of decisions starting June 22.
For oral presentations selected for publication, the organization said there may be an opportunity to publish in IVES Conference Series, an open-access journal covering vine and wine research. Articles published there receive a DOI and are released under a Creative Commons Attribution license.
The congress guidelines require abstracts to be submitted in English and two other official OIV languages: German, French, Italian, Spanish or Russian. The organization also said presenter registration is mandatory for oral and short presentations. Questions about submissions can be sent to [email protected].
