Valença will mark World Wine Tourism Day on November 8 with an afternoon of wine tastings and meetings with local producers at the town’s tourism office, part of a municipal effort to highlight the wines and wine-related traditions of Portugal’s Alto Minho region.

In a statement issued Wednesday, the municipality said the event will run from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Valença Tourism Office. The program is centered on wine presentations and tastings and is intended to bring visitors into direct contact with producers from the area.

Two producers, Adega dos Herdeiros and Edmun do Val, are scheduled to take part. According to the municipality, they will present their wines and discuss their connection to the local territory, giving participants a chance to learn about different labels and the character of wine production in the region.

The event will also include a period of open tasting and conversation with the producers, accompanied by local food products. The municipality said the program will end with a symbolic toast marking World Wine Tourism Day.

Valença officials framed the initiative as part of a broader strategy to promote local resources and support small producers. The municipality said it wants to encourage people to discover the area through wine tourism, which it described as an experience that brings together culture, gastronomy, tradition and local identity.

The municipality also said the gathering is meant to strengthen ties between visitors and the people involved in wine production, while helping raise the profile of the local economy. Valença has been promoting itself as a destination for cultural and food-based experiences, and the November 8 program fits that approach by linking tourism to regional agriculture and heritage.

The Alto Minho, in northern Portugal, is known for its wine culture and for producers whose work is closely tied to local landscapes and rural traditions. By focusing on direct exchanges between the public and winemakers, the Valença event is designed to give residents and visitors a more detailed look at how those products are made and how they relate to the wider identity of the region.

The municipality said the initiative is open to those who want to explore the flavors and stories behind Alto Minho wines in a setting built around tasting, conversation and contact with producers.
