ProWein has released the 2026 edition of its ProSpirits Report, a market study that the trade fair organizer says is meant to help spirits producers, distributors and buyers navigate a sector under pressure from changing consumer habits, shifting demand and tighter competition.
The report, now available online, was compiled under the scientific guidance of Geisenheim University and draws on research across the spirits value chain, from production and trade to food service. ProWein said the goal is to turn complex market changes into practical guidance for business models, product portfolios and market positioning.
The latest edition says the spirits market is being reshaped less by short-term volatility than by deeper structural changes. Among the trends highlighted are the tension between premiumization and downtrading, the growing role of no- and low-alcohol drinks, and stronger demand for ready-to-drink products and aperitif-style concepts. The report also points to more deliberate, context-driven drinking as a factor influencing purchasing decisions and consumption occasions.
ProWein said the study identifies areas where companies may still find growth even as parts of the market come under pressure. That includes segments tied to changing social habits, lighter drinking occasions and products that fit new patterns of at-home and out-of-home consumption.
Alongside the full report, ProWein is offering a shorter white paper in German and English that summarizes the main findings for quicker use by industry professionals. The company said the materials are intended to give exhibitors and trade visitors direct access to research that can inform strategic decisions throughout the year.
The release is part of ProWein’s effort to expand beyond its annual trade fair format and operate as a year-round source of market intelligence for the spirits business.
