Spanish winery’s back-to-back Golden Vines Awards highlight global prestige and growing influence of Spain in fine wine industry

Vega Sicilia, a Spanish winery based in Valbuena de Duero, has been named the “World’s Best Fine Wine Producer” at the 2025 Golden Vines Awards. This marks the second consecutive year that the winery has received this honor. The awards ceremony took place over the weekend at the Faena Forum in Miami, drawing leading figures from the global wine and spirits industry.

The Golden Vines Awards, often referred to as the “Oscars of wine,” are organized by Liquid Icon. The event included tastings, master classes, and live charity auctions in partnership with Sotheby’s. Proceeds from the auctions support the Gerard Basset Foundation, which funds education and training programs worldwide in wine, spirits, and hospitality.

The selection process for the awards is based on votes from 830 industry experts representing more than 100 countries. These voters include Masters of Wine, Master Sommeliers, Advanced Sommeliers, and holders of advanced wine diplomas. The results are independently verified by Deloitte LLP to ensure credibility and transparency.

Jessica Julmy, general manager of TEMPOS Vega Sicilia, accepted the award on behalf of the winery. In her remarks, she thanked both the organizers and the professionals who voted for Vega Sicilia again this year. She highlighted that this recognition honors not only the vision of the Álvarez Mezquíriz family, who have led the winery for decades, but also the work of their team and clients around the world.

Vega Sicilia is part of TEMPOS Vega Sicilia, a group that includes six wineries owned by the Álvarez family. These are Vega Sicilia and Alión in Ribera del Duero; Pintia in Toro; Oremus in Hungary’s Tokaj region; Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia Macán in Rioja, a joint venture with the Rothschild family; and Deiva, a new project in Rías Baixas.

The repeated recognition at the Golden Vines Awards further cements Vega Sicilia’s reputation as one of the most prestigious wineries globally. The event in Miami brought together some of the most respected professionals in wine for two days of celebration and collaboration. The award is seen as a significant achievement for both Vega Sicilia and Spanish winemaking as a whole.
