On Monday, May 19, Haro and Burgundy will unite in the Barrio de la Estación for the International Wine Encounters III: Burgundy. This professional event is expected to attract 600 attendees and will take place from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM across various locations in Haro's Barrio de la Estación. The event will feature hosts from C.V.N.E., Bodegas Gómez Cruzado, La Rioja Alta, S.A., Bodegas Bilbaínas – Viña Pomal, Bodegas Muga, and Bodegas RODA. They will welcome Burgundy houses such as Maison Albert-Bichot, Maison Olivier Leflaive, Ropiteau Frères, Maison Joseph Drouhin, Maison Louis Jadot, and Domaine Laroche & Maison Champy.
The event, organized by the Asociación del Barrio de La Estación, showcases the strong alliance and shared international vision of the Barrio's wineries. This collaboration with renowned winemakers from significant wine regions worldwide highlights their shared history, expertise, and ethical approach to winemaking. The partnership between the Barrio de la Estación wineries and Burgundy will highlight the similarities between these two regions, both known for their exceptional winemaking traditions. They have preserved their unique landscapes and cultures through sustainable viticulture and artisanal production methods.
Both regions boast a unique diversity of terroirs and historic vineyards that offer ideal natural conditions for producing some of the world's finest wines. Mayte Calvo de la Banda Salgado, an enologist at Bodegas Bilbaínas and current president of the Asociación del Barrio de la Estación, emphasized the importance of this collaboration. She noted that the event strengthens the prestige of their wineries and wines globally. This year, the focus is on Burgundy, a region where terroir is authentically expressed in each wine. The event reaffirms their role as ambassadors of wine culture, a way of living, working, and interpreting their vineyards, passing on a legacy that has defined their land for over a century.
Calvo de la Banda Salgado also highlighted the cultural exchange aspect of the event, where wineries can share knowledge and experiences with another leading international wine region. For the first time, BEIWE will offer a limited number of tickets for wine enthusiasts who wish to participate in this exclusive experience. Tickets will be available starting March 10 on the Association's website.
This edition, featuring Burgundy, solidifies the Rioja initiative as a must-attend event for wine professionals and enthusiasts. It follows the success of previous editions, which focused on Italy's Piedmont region with Barolo and Barbaresco in 2023, and Bordeaux in its inaugural edition in 2022.
