Italy Renews Enocontrol’s Wine Testing Authority

Italy’s agriculture ministry has renewed the designation of Enocontrol s.c.a.r.l., the laboratory in Alba, to issue official analysis certificates for the wine sector, according to a decree published Monday in the Gazzetta Ufficiale.

The measure, signed on May 18 and published in the Official Gazette’s general series No. 119 on May 25, extends the laboratory’s role in a system that supports state oversight of wine production, labeling and trade. The renewal matters for wineries, exporters and regulators because these certificates are used in checks on compliance with Italian and European rules, including documentation tied to traceability and quality controls.

Enocontrol, based in Alba in the Piedmont wine region, has long been part of the network of laboratories authorized to carry out analytical work for the sector. The ministry’s decision keeps that status in place, allowing the lab to continue issuing certificates that can be requested in administrative procedures and inspections involving wine products.

Official analytical certification is a key tool in Italy’s wine industry, where producers must document origin, composition and conformity across a supply chain that reaches domestic markets and foreign buyers. The renewal also helps maintain continuity for companies that rely on recognized testing when moving products through customs or responding to requests from authorities.

The decree was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests and reflects the government’s routine but important role in supervising technical bodies that support the wine market.
