On June 4, the world celebrates World Cognac Day, a date that highlights one of France’s most iconic spirits. Rémy Martin, a house with nearly three centuries of history, stands out as a reference in the world of cognac. Founded in 1724 by a young winegrower in the Cognac region, Rémy Martin remains the only major cognac house established by a winegrower that continues to produce high-quality spirits with an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Rémy Martin’s reputation is built on its use of grapes from the prestigious Grande and Petite Champagne vineyards. These areas are known for producing eaux-de-vie with exceptional aging potential. The house’s cognacs are aged in French Limousin oak barrels, which impart unique flavors and aromas. The result is a Cognac Fine Champagne, a designation reserved for blends made exclusively from these two crus.

Among Rémy Martin’s most celebrated offerings are three expressions: XO, 1738 Accord Royal, and VSOP. Each represents a different facet of the house’s expertise and legacy. XO is considered the emblem of Rémy Martin’s excellence. It is crafted from a blend of 400 eaux-de-vie sourced from the best vineyards in the region and aged for more than ten years in French oak barrels. This long maturation gives XO its smooth texture and complex profile, with notes of candied orange, toasted cocoa, honey, white flowers, plums, figs, cinnamon, and hazelnuts. XO can be enjoyed neat, on ice, or in classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned.

The 1738 Accord Royal pays tribute to the royal recognition granted to Rémy Martin by King Louis XV. This cognac is known for its smoothness and sweet notes reminiscent of toasted bread, vanilla, brioche, caramelized butter, baked spices, and dark chocolate. Its aroma features plum and fig jam with hints of oak and toffee. The 1738 Accord Royal is versatile enough to be enjoyed straight or in cocktails such as the Sidecar.

For those who prefer a more traditional style, Rémy Martin’s VSOP offers a balanced blend of ripe fruits and licorice, complemented by vanilla and ripe apricot notes. This expression is suitable for sipping neat, over ice, or mixed in cocktails like the Rémy Ginger.

Rémy Martin’s cognacs are available at select retailers across Spain. XO is priced at 305 euros and can be found at Club del Gourmet (El Corte Inglés). The 1738 Accord Royal retails for 79.50 euros at the same location. VSOP is available for 56.45 euros at Carrefour, El Corte Inglés, Eroski, Unide, Alcampo, and Unialco.

As World Cognac Day approaches, Rémy Martin offers enthusiasts an opportunity to celebrate with spirits that reflect centuries of craftsmanship and dedication to quality. Whether enjoyed alone or shared with friends and family during special occasions, these cognacs continue to honor their heritage while appealing to modern tastes.
