Rémy Martin and Anish Kapoor unveil limited edition XO decanter blending art and cognac tradition

Rémy Martin has unveiled a limited edition of its XO decanter in collaboration with British-Indian artist Anish Kapoor. The release includes 16,000 bottles available worldwide and marks a rare fusion between fine cognac craftsmanship and contemporary art. The project was officially presented by La Maison Rémy Martin in early 2024 and reflects the brand’s ongoing commitment to innovation and heritage.

Kapoor, known for his exploration of form, color, and space, reimagined the iconic Rémy Martin XO decanter with a minimalist design that features a concave center. The new shape captures and reflects light through the amber liquid inside, enhancing the visual experience of the cognac. The bottle also includes a redesigned copper neck and stopper, adding to its exclusivity. Each bottle is priced at approximately $300.

The collaboration stems from Kapoor’s personal connection to Rémy Martin. “From the beginning of this project, I felt it referenced my own story,” he said. “My father used to drink it when I was a child in India, and I’ve carried that memory with me over the years.” This emotional link adds depth to a partnership that blends personal history with centuries-old tradition.

Rémy Martin XO is made from a blend of 400 eaux-de-vie sourced from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne, two of the most prestigious crus in the Cognac region. The result is a Cognac Fine Champagne known for its smooth texture and complex aromatic profile. The house has been producing cognac since 1724 and remains one of the few producers focused exclusively on Fine Champagne blends.

In addition to the decanter, Kapoor created an accompanying artwork: a concave mirror sculpture that plays with light and reflection. Inspired by the golden hues of Rémy Martin XO, the piece invites viewers to engage with the sensory qualities of the cognac beyond taste alone.

Jean-Philippe Hecquet, CEO of Rémy Martin, emphasized that this collaboration highlights both tradition and innovation. “Rémy Martin XO perfectly embodies our heritage and savoir-faire,” he said. “This partnership with Anish Kapoor not only celebrates that essence but also offers a unique opportunity to experience the intersection of cognac craftsmanship and contemporary artistic vision.”

The limited edition is being distributed globally through select retailers and luxury outlets. It targets collectors, art enthusiasts, and connoisseurs who value both design and fine spirits. With this release, Rémy Martin continues to position itself at the crossroads of culture, luxury, and artisanal excellence.
