The European project MedDiet Go is set to launch in January 2024, running until March 2026. This initiative involves six European countries: Bulgaria, Spain, Italy, Greece, Slovenia, and Portugal. The project's main aim is to promote a healthy lifestyle based on the Mediterranean Diet, enhance the Mediterranean regions as international tourist destinations, and support the sustainable economic development of rural areas in Europe. The project will consolidate the Med Diet Euro-Cluster network.
Representatives from the participating countries will collaborate to provide knowledge and tools to regions aiming to boost sustainable tourism and local economies. MedDiet Go focuses on the Mediterranean Diet, which is globally recognized for its health benefits and sustainability, and is listed as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. However, the project's scope is broader, adopting a holistic approach to promoting the region and sustainable tourism. It aims to contribute to the economic development of rural areas and address challenges posed by global markets.
The participating entities will work on developing tools and resources to promote sustainable tourism, support rural communities in their economic development, and promote the involved regions internationally. They will also encourage the Mediterranean Diet as a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. This transnational cooperation is crucial for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices, ensuring the project's benefits reach a wide range of rural communities across Europe.
MedDiet Go is committed to a sustainable future. It aims not only to improve people's well-being and the planet's sustainability but also to protect and enhance the cultural and natural heritage of the regions. Promoting the values preserved by the Mediterranean Diet and sustainable tourism are fundamental pillars to tackle the economic and social challenges of this century.
The project is funded by the Interreg Euro-Med program and coordinated by the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Services, and Navigation of Seville (CCSEV) in Spain. Other participants include the Mediterranean Diet Foundation (Spain), E-ZAVOD, Zavod Za Projektno Svetovanje, Raziskovanje in Razvoj Celovitih Resitev (Slovenia), Regione Puglia (Italy), Company for Research, Education, Innovation and Development of the North Aegean Region S.A. Eloris (Greece), Agência de Desenvolvimento Regional do Alentejo (Portugal), and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vratsa (Bulgaria). The project promotes a healthy lifestyle based on the Mediterranean Diet with the goal of achieving sustainable economic development in rural areas.
