The 97th Academy Awards will once again feature the fine wines of Clarendelle and Domaine Clarence Dillon, marking the third consecutive year of their partnership. This family-owned estate from Bordeaux will be the official wine partner, adding a touch of elegance to Hollywood's biggest night. The wine selection includes the Clarendelle Bordeaux White 2023, Clarendelle Bordeaux Red 2016, and Clarendelle Amberwine 2021. These wines promise to keep the stars refreshed throughout the evening.
New additions to this year's lineup are La Clarté de Haut-Brion 2021, a rare white Bordeaux with only 1,000 cases available, and Le Clarence de Haut-Brion 2015. These wines are expected to be as impressive as the nominees themselves. Prince Robert of Luxembourg, CEO and president of Domaine Clarence Dillon, has a personal connection to the film industry. Before joining the family business, he worked as a screenwriter. He expressed his excitement about the partnership, highlighting his family's commitment to film and the arts.
The wines will be served at the Dolby Theatre and the Governors Ball, where Oscar winners will have their statuettes engraved. Additionally, they will be featured at the Official Oscars Watch Party at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, alongside a menu by Wolfgang Puck Catering.
Wine has long played a role in cinema, often symbolizing luxury and sophistication. Classic films have featured iconic wines, such as Bond's preference for Mouton Rothschild 1955 and Dom Pérignon 1953. Even animated films like Ratatouille have showcased fine wines like Château Latour 1961. Wine in films often serves as a storytelling device, conveying themes of elegance or deception. For instance, in From Russia with Love, a villain orders Chianti with fish, revealing his true nature. In Death on the Nile, a drugged bottle of Pétrus plays a crucial role in the plot.
The presence of Clarendelle and Domaine Clarence Dillon wines at the Oscars highlights the enduring connection between wine and cinema. As history shows, wine often steals the spotlight, adding depth and sophistication to the stories we love. This year's Oscars promise to be no different, with these exquisite wines enhancing the celebration of film.
