Glenfiddich has unveiled Grand Château, its latest limited-edition whisky, blending the heritage of the Scottish distillery with the refinement of Bordeaux's renowned winemaking region. Part of the prestigious Glenfiddich Grand Series, Grand Château is a 31-year-old single malt that has undergone a unique maturation process in red wine casks from Bordeaux, marking a first for the distillery.
Grand Château represents a blend of time-honored craftsmanship and innovative techniques. The whisky matures for 22 years in American oak barrels before spending nine additional years in Bordeaux wine casks, resulting in a rich, multi-layered profile. This process introduces fruity notes and deep oak undertones, enhancing Glenfiddich's signature character with a new level of complexity.
Claudia Falcone, Glenfiddich's Global Brand Director, emphasized the brand's commitment to pushing boundaries: "Grand Château extends Glenfiddich's ultra-premium portfolio by experimenting with flavor combinations and an extended finishing period. This innovation reflects our dedication to exploring the intersection of cultures while redefining luxury in whisky."
Grand Château showcases a reddish hue and an intricate tasting profile. The nose reveals warm vanilla with fruity and floral cassis notes, accompanied by hints of dried fruit. On the palate, flavors of caramelized cherries and apples merge with toasted oak and warm spice, culminating in a long, characterful finish.
This release joins Glenfiddich's Grand Series, which includes other distinguished expressions such as Grand Yozakura, Grande Couronne, and Grand Cru. Each of these offerings represents a unique exploration of flavor and maturation, finished in rare and exotic casks, from Awamori barrels to French Cognac and Sherry Palo Cortado casks.
Grand Château is priced at $2,600 and reflects Glenfiddich's ongoing dedication to crafting exceptional whiskies that marry tradition with innovation.
