Delamain, the historic French cognac house, has been named “Spirit of the Year” at the 2025 Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition. The award was given to its Pléiade Domaine La Rambaudie XO, which also received a Platinum Medal and an impressive score of 97 points, making it the highest-rated cognac in this year’s competition.
The Critics Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition is recognized as one of the most important events in the global spirits industry. This year’s edition brought together a panel of expert judges who evaluated entries from around the world. Delamain’s Pléiade Domaine La Rambaudie XO stood out for its subtle elegance and aromatic complexity. Judges noted flavors of dried fig, cherry, lilac, and wild spring flowers. The panel described it as having a delicate and sophisticated profile that favors finesse over power, calling it “a balanced beauty that does not need to impose itself with force.”
Pléiade Domaine La Rambaudie is a single-parcel cognac made exclusively from grapes grown in the village of Malaville, located in the heart of Grande Champagne, the most prestigious area within the Cognac region. The spirit is aged in a single French oak barrel, reflecting Delamain’s philosophy of patience, respect for raw materials, and dedication to purity of expression. Five years after its launch, this international recognition confirms its status among the world’s top cognacs.
In addition to the success of La Rambaudie XO, two other Delamain expressions were also honored at this year’s competition. Pale & Dry XO received a Gold Medal with 92 points. Critic Michael Cervin described it as “a lighter version of cognac, with integrated aromas and a slightly smoky finish.” Delamain XXO was awarded a Platinum Medal with 95 points. Cervin called it “a smooth, restrained offering with perfectly balanced flavors and a memorable finish.”
These awards reinforce Delamain’s commitment to craftsmanship and excellence. Since its founding in 1824, the house has remained true to its refined and timeless style. The recent accolades highlight Delamain’s ongoing dedication to quality and tradition in the world of fine spirits.
