Spain Produced 5.3 Billion Liters to Rank Second in E.U. Beer Output in 2025

Spain was the European Union’s second-largest beer producer in 2025, turning out 5.3 billion liters and accounting for 15.5% of the bloc’s total output, according to Eurostat data released on Tuesday.

The figures place Spain behind Germany, which remained the largest producer in the EU with 7.4 billion liters, or 21.6% of total production. Poland ranked third with 3.5 billion liters, equal to 10.2% of the EU total. The Netherlands followed with 2.4 billion liters, or 6.9%, and France produced 2.1 billion liters, or 6%.

Across the 27-member bloc, breweries produced 34.4 billion liters of beer in 2025. That was a slight decline of 0.7% from 2024, but it was still 2.2% higher than in 2020. Eurostat’s figures show that most of last year’s production came from beer with an alcohol content above 0.5%. That segment reached 32.3 billion liters. Beer with less than 0.5% alcohol, including alcohol-free varieties, accounted for the remaining 2.1 billion liters.

The data underline Spain’s weight in one of Europe’s largest food and beverage industries. With 5.3 billion liters produced, Spain was responsible for roughly one out of every six liters of beer made in the EU in 2025. Only Germany produced more. Spain’s output also kept it well ahead of Poland, the third-largest producer, by 1.8 billion liters.

The five leading producers together represented just over 60% of all beer made in the EU last year. Germany and Spain alone accounted for 37.1% of total production, showing how concentrated brewing remains in the bloc’s largest producing countries. Eurostat did not give a specific reason for the modest year-over-year decline in overall output.

The figures also show that traditional beer continued to dominate the market in production terms, while low-alcohol and alcohol-free beer remained a smaller but notable part of the sector. The 2.1 billion liters produced in those categories indicate a sizeable segment of brewing activity across the EU, even though it remained far below the volume of beer above the 0.5% alcohol threshold.
