Champagne Shipments to U.S. Reach 26.4 Million Bottles in 2025, Securing Top Export Market Status

Champagne shipments to the United States reached 26.4 million bottles in 2025, according to data released by the Comité Champagne in Epernay, France. This figure marks a slight decrease from the previous year but confirms the U.S. as the largest export market for Champagne worldwide.

Global Champagne shipments totaled 266 million bottles in 2025, down 2% from the 271.4 million bottles shipped in 2024. Of these, international markets received nearly 152 million bottles, while France accounted for 114 million bottles. The decline in overall volume reflects ongoing economic and geopolitical challenges affecting both domestic and international demand.

David Chatillon, President of the Union des Maisons de Champagne and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, emphasized the importance of maintaining Champagne’s reputation and appeal. He stated that coordinated efforts and a strong appellation would help continue to bring enjoyment to consumers around the world who appreciate fine wines and celebration.

Maxime Toubart, President of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, highlighted the significance of the French market as a showcase for Champagne. He pointed to the region’s excellent wines, unique expertise, and collective strength as key assets for consolidating Champagne’s position both at home and abroad.

Lori Russo, Director of the Bureau du Champagne, USA, noted that despite economic pressures, the U.S. market remains resilient for Champagne imports. She attributed this strength to the versatility and diversity of Champagne wines, which she said are suitable for a wide range of occasions—from casual gatherings to major celebrations.

The Comité Champagne represents both independent producers and major Champagne houses. Its responsibilities include promoting economic growth, technical innovation, environmental stewardship, quality improvement, sector management, marketing, communications, and protection of the Champagne appellation worldwide.

The organization continues to engage with consumers through social media platforms to share updates on industry trends and developments. The latest shipment figures underscore both the enduring popularity of Champagne in key markets like the United States and the challenges facing producers as they navigate shifting global conditions.
