Guala Closures Acquires Mexican Screwcap Plant to Boost U.S. Wine Market Supply

Guala Closures, a global company specializing in closure solutions for the beverage and pharmaceutical industries, has expanded its manufacturing presence in North America by acquiring Vinventions’ screwcap production facility in Rosarito, Mexico. The acquisition was announced on February 23, 2026, from the company’s headquarters in Milan, Italy.

The Rosarito plant, which began operations in 2024, is equipped to produce more than 200 million aluminum closures annually. The facility focuses on 30×60 aluminum screwcaps, a standard size widely used in the wine industry. Guala Closures stated that the site’s capacity can be increased further if needed to meet rising demand.

This move is aimed at strengthening Guala Closures’ supply chain for the U.S. wine and spirits market. The company cited the plant’s strategic location near the U.S. border as a key factor, allowing for shorter delivery times and improved customer service for American clients. The acquisition is expected to benefit small and medium-sized winemakers in particular, who often require flexible and localized supply options.

Andrea Lodetti, CEO of Guala Closures, said that this investment is an important step in the company’s growth strategy for North America. He emphasized that having a dedicated production site in Mexico will help Guala Closures respond more effectively to customer needs and support future expansion as demand increases.

Guala Closures has operated in Mexico since 1979 through its Guala Closures Mexico division. The company also runs a large manufacturing plant in San José Iturbide and serves the U.S. market from its Fairfield facility under Guala Closures North America. The addition of the Rosarito plant is intended to complement these existing operations and reinforce the company’s commitment to serving both wine and spirits producers across the United States.

The U.S. wine market remains a priority for Guala Closures, which has reported steady growth and strong results in recent years. The acquisition of Vinventions’ Mexican screwcap business aligns with Guala Closures’ broader strategy of targeted acquisitions to strengthen its position in high-value closure segments and key geographic markets.

Guala Closures operates 40 production facilities worldwide and has a presence in over 100 countries. In the year leading up to September 2025, the group reported revenues exceeding €936 million and employed more than 5,000 people. The company holds over 200 patents and maintains seven product development and innovation centers globally.

With this latest acquisition, Guala Closures aims to ensure reliable supply for its U.S. customers while positioning itself for continued growth in North America’s competitive wine and spirits sector.
