Glenmorangie has introduced The Altus 25 Years Old, a single malt Scotch whisky that reflects the distillery’s focus on time, patience, and craftsmanship. The release marks a new addition to Glenmorangie’s premium range, joining The Original 12 Years Old and Infinita 18 Years Old. The Altus is the result of a quarter-century of aging and careful blending, overseen by Dr. Bill Lumsden, Glenmorangie’s Director of Whisky Creation and Master Distiller.
The whisky is aged for 25 years in classic bourbon casks, with a portion finished in Madeira wine barrels. This combination aims to create a balance between depth and elegance. According to Glenmorangie, the aroma features notes of carnation, orange blossom, honey, and peach, with undertones of vanilla and toasted almond. On the palate, the whisky offers flavors of mandarin, pear, currant, and yellow plum. The finish is described as long-lasting, with hints of buttery caramel, marzipan, and ripe banana.
The production process for The Altus involves custom-designed casks made from tight-grained American oak sourced from the Ozark Mountains in Missouri. These casks are air-seasoned outdoors for two years before being heavily toasted according to Dr. Lumsden’s specifications. Glenmorangie states that this method contributes to the whisky’s creamy texture and smoothness.
The Altus 25 Years Old is positioned as a collector’s item and a symbol of Glenmorangie’s commitment to quality. The suggested retail price is €599 in European markets. The release is expected to appeal to whisky enthusiasts seeking rare expressions with complex profiles.
Glenmorangie has built its reputation on producing single malts known for their fruity character and refined style. With The Altus 25 Years Old, the distillery continues its tradition of combining scientific precision with creative blending. The launch comes at a time when demand for aged Scotch whiskies remains strong among collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
