UGVC Gives Nouvelle-Aquitaine Growers a Mobile App for Crop Health Bulletins

UGVC said Tuesday that winegrowers and other farmers in France’s Nouvelle-Aquitaine region can now use a mobile application to consult the latest Bulletin de Santé du Végétal, or BSV, a plant health bulletin that provides near real-time crop health information, regulatory messages and risk analysis intended to guide crop protection decisions.

According to UGVC, the new tool is designed to match current mobile habits by giving users direct access to the most recent BSV reports for Nouvelle-Aquitaine and a short summary of the key points in each bulletin. The organization said the service is meant to help growers review the sanitary status of crops quickly and use the risk analysis issued for each crop to adjust their phytosanitary strategy.

The BSV is already used in the region as a decision support document, especially in viticulture. UGVC said winegrowers can rely on it when deciding how to protect their vineyards, while also treating it as a complement to recommendation bulletins and information provided by advisers rather than a stand-alone source. The group said the system is part of the Ecophyto plan, the French program aimed at improving plant protection practices.

The application is not being distributed through Apple’s App Store or Google Play. Instead, UGVC said users can open a web link in their phone’s browser and install it directly on the home screen, where it functions like a standard app. The organization promoted that approach as a way to provide fast access while taking up very little storage space on a device.

UGVC said Android users can install the tool through Chrome or Firefox by opening the address, selecting the browser menu and choosing the option to install the application or add it to the home screen. For iPhone users, the group said the process works through Safari by opening the same link, tapping the share button and selecting the option to place it on the home screen.

The change is modest in technical terms, but it could matter for vineyard management across one of France’s main wine regions. Faster access to health alerts and risk analysis may help growers respond more quickly to disease pressure and regulatory guidance, which can influence treatment timing, input costs and compliance decisions. For the wine sector, that can have practical effects on how vineyards are managed during the growing season and on the information available to support those choices.

Nouvelle-Aquitaine is one of the country’s most important agricultural and wine-producing areas, and the BSV has long been part of the information flow used by growers during the season. By shifting access to a simpler mobile format, UGVC is trying to reduce the time between publication of a bulletin and consultation in the field, especially for producers who increasingly rely on phones for operational decisions.

UGVC described the app as a direct access point rather than a new reporting system. The underlying purpose remains the same: to provide current information on plant health conditions, deliver regulatory notices and support risk-based crop protection strategies. For winegrowers, the main change is that those updates can now be checked from a phone screen in a few steps, without going through a traditional app store or a longer website search.
