Sina Finance’s baijiu basket fell to a six-day low on Wednesday

Retail prices for most of the baijiu labels tracked by Sina Finance moved lower on Wednesday, pushing its 12-bottle basket to the lowest level in six days.

The basket, which includes one bottle from each of 12 tracked baijiu references, was priced at 10,747 Chinese yuan in data published Wednesday. That was down 37 yuan from 10,784 yuan a day earlier, a decline of 0.34%, after the basket had shown no change in the previous session.

According to the daily monitoring, nine of the 12 tracked references posted lower prices over the prior 24 hours. Two rose and one was unchanged. The figures reflect nominal retail transaction prices gathered before publication on Wednesday.

The data comes from Jiujia Neican, a price-tracking service compiled by Sina Finance for China’s baijiu retail market. Sina Finance says the monitor collects transaction prices from about 200 points across China, including distributors, physical stores, and e-commerce platforms.

The latest reading adds to signs of continued pressure on retail pricing for several well-known baijiu products, at least within the limited basket tracked by the service. Wednesday’s drop was broad-based in that most of the references in the sample moved down, even though the overall decline in the basket was small in percentage terms.

Baijiu is China’s dominant distilled spirit, and retail prices for leading labels are closely watched by distributors, investors, and industry analysts as a real-time signal of market conditions. Daily movements can reflect discounting, local competition, shifts in channel inventory, and short-term trading activity across stores and online platforms. The Sina Finance monitor does not assign a single reason for the latest change.

The basket’s fall from 10,784 yuan to 10,747 yuan also marked a break from the prior day’s flat reading. Sina Finance said the new level was the lowest seen in the last six days.

The figures should be read with caution. The Jiujia Neican basket covers only 12 products and is not an official index for the entire baijiu market. The sample offers a snapshot of selected labels rather than a full measure of industry pricing. A one-day move also does not establish a lasting trend and does not, by itself, show changes in sales volumes or consumer demand.

Even so, the daily tracker is followed because it gives a frequent view of transaction prices in a market where shifts can appear first at the retail and distributor level. By drawing on data from a broad set of outlets across China, including online channels, the monitor aims to capture where bottles are actually changing hands rather than relying only on listed prices.

Wednesday’s update, based on prices collected during the previous 24 hours, showed that the weakness was spread across much of the sample. With nine references lower, the day’s decline was not driven by a single outlier. At the same time, the presence of two gainers and one unchanged label suggested that price movements remained uneven across brands and channels.

Sina Finance published the data on its finance portal on Wednesday.
