The DOC Maremma Toscana wines are set to make their debut at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris 2024, as the Consorzio Tutela Vini della Maremma Toscana marks its tenth anniversary. This milestone year has seen the appellation achieve significant growth, with bottled wine production rising by 8.15% in 2024 to nearly 7.5 million bottles. Vermentino has emerged as a key driver of success, aligning with the rising global demand for white wines.
Francesco Mazzei, president of the Consorzio, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in production, quality, and membership growth, noting the importance of continuing to elevate the DOC's presence in international markets. In 2024, the Consorzio surpassed its target of 7 million bottles, reflecting growing interest from the global wine industry. Vermentino alone accounted for 2.37 million bottles, or 32% of the DOC's total production. White wines now represent over 42% of bottled production, while rosés have risen to 5%, signaling an expanding diversity. Red wines remain dominant at 53%, though this reflects a slight decline from the previous year.
The Consorzio's participation at Wine Paris & Vinexpo Paris from February 10 to 12 will include around 30 producers presenting over 50 labels. This first-time presence on such a prominent stage will precede the Anteprime Toscane event, further raising the profile of the DOC in key markets. Featured wines will include Vermentino, Ciliegiolo, rosés, and Supertuscan-style blends, offering international professionals a broad overview of the appellation's offerings.
The dynamic nature of the DOC is further reflected in the growth of its membership, which now totals 473 producers. The DOC Maremma Toscana represents 33% of Grosseto's certified wine production, underlining its economic importance to the province. This upward trajectory highlights the appellation's role as a vital force in promoting the region's winemaking heritage and potential on the global stage.
