Vallepicciola, a young but increasingly prominent winery based in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Tuscany, has secured a position on Wine Spectator's prestigious Top 100 list for the first time. Its Chianti Classico 2021 was ranked 37th globally, a milestone achievement that marks Vallepicciola's growing reputation in the international wine community. Nestled in the scenic hills of Siena, the winery has built a reputation for combining traditional practices with innovative techniques under the leadership of the Bolfo family and the strategic vision of their winemaker and general manager, Alessandro Cellai.

"This is a milestone for Vallepicciola and for Chianti Classico as a whole," Cellai stated. "Securing a spot in Wine Spectator's Top 100 with our Chianti Classico 2021 is an extraordinary landmark and the result of a collective effort. We are a young winery, but we have proven that with dedication, vision, and respect for the land, exceptional goals can be achieved." Wine Spectator awarded this Chianti Classico a score of 92/100, highlighting its refined complexity. The tasting notes describe the wine as showcasing a "subtle influence of new oak" alongside flavors of "cherry, blackberry, iron, and tar." The publication also praised the wine's vibrancy, density, and balanced, energetic finish.

Vallepicciola's rapid ascent in the industry is a testament to a highly collaborative team approach. Since opening its architecturally refined winery in 2016, Vallepicciola has continued to expand and refine its offerings. In 2023, the launch of its Grand Cru range underscored its commitment to high-quality winemaking. CEO Alberto Colombo has overseen strategic developments, while Alessandro Cellai has led the winemaking efforts since 2020, supported by agronomist Francesco Beni, cellar master Erasmo Mazzone, and hospitality manager Tamara Marini. Together, this team has implemented careful planning and a dedication to excellence, making Vallepicciola a new benchmark in Chianti Classico production.

The estate currently spans 275 hectares, with 107 hectares under vine. Vallepicciola cultivates six grape varieties and produces an annual output of 500,000 bottles across 15 labels. Beyond its wines, the estate also embraces a broader agricultural heritage. It produces traditional Vin Santo, grappa, and extra virgin olive oil, leveraging its 4,000 olive trees. The estate even offers champagne, creating a diversified yet distinctly Tuscan experience in the heart of Chianti Classico.
