The Glasgow Distillery has introduced three new limited-edition single malt whiskies as part of its Small Batch Series, each finished in a different type of wine or port cask. The new releases—Glasgow 1770 White Port Cask Finish, Glasgow 1770 Amarone Cask Finish, and Glasgow 1770 Passito di Caluso Cask Finish—are now available for purchase at £62 per 700ml bottle.
Each whisky in the trio starts its maturation in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to casks sourced from European wine regions for a secondary finish. The Glasgow 1770 White Port Cask Finish is a triple-distilled spirit that matures for over four years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before finishing in French oak white port hogsheads. This expression is bottled at 53.3% ABV and is limited to just 730 bottles.
The Glasgow 1770 Amarone Cask Finish uses the distillery’s unpeated, double-distilled style. It spends five years in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels and nearly two additional years in Italian Amarone wine barriques. Bottled at 53% ABV, there are 1,060 bottles available from three casks.
The third release, Glasgow 1770 Passito di Caluso Cask Finish, features the distillery’s peated, double-distilled spirit. It is finished in rare Italian dessert wine hogsheads and bottled at 57.8% ABV.
Mike Hayward, founder of The Glasgow Distillery, said the Small Batch Series allows the team to experiment with cask finishing and explore new flavor profiles. He described the series as representing the experimental side of the distillery and reflecting the dynamic character of Glasgow itself.
Sebastian Bunford-Jones, a member of the blending team, explained that even when using similar casks, the distillery’s three house styles develop distinct flavors over time. He said that when a cask reaches a particularly expressive character, it may be selected for bottling as part of the Small Batch Series to showcase how spirit and wood interact.
All three whiskies are available through The Glasgow Distillery’s website and selected retailers. International distribution is planned for Germany, Finland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, and the Czech Republic.
The Glasgow Distillery was established in 2012 and became the first single malt Scotch whisky distillery to operate in Glasgow in more than a century. Its debut single malt, Glasgow 1770, was released in 2018.
