The International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) is set to revolutionize the vine and wine sector by harnessing the power of blockchain technology. This innovative step is encapsulated in their forthcoming online course titled "Blockchain Applied to the Vine and Wine Sector," scheduled to run from the 4th to the 7th of June 2024. The program promises to unfold over four insightful days, offering a comprehensive dive into how blockchain technology can be leveraged within the industry.

The course is meticulously designed to cater to a broad audience, ranging from professionals within the vine and wine sector to enthusiasts keen on exploring the intersection of technology and viniculture. It aims to provide a robust foundation in blockchain technology while highlighting its transformative potential in enhancing transparency, traceability, and efficiency across the vine and wine value chain.

Participants will embark on a journey that begins with an introductory session on blockchain technology, where foundational concepts such as blockchain characteristics, types, mining, consensus mechanisms, smart contracts, and the evolution of the web will be discussed. This sets the stage for a deeper exploration into the practical applications of blockchain in the vine and wine sector.

Subsequent sessions will delve into the integration of blockchain within the industry, examining successful case studies and discussing the value, risks, and opportunities presented by this technology. Topics such as traceability in wine supply chains, smart contracts, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), token economics, the Metaverse, Decentralized Finance (DeFi), Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), and the regulatory landscape will be thoroughly explored.

The course is structured to ensure a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical insights. Esteemed guest speakers and interactive workshops are poised to enrich the learning experience, allowing participants to engage directly with experts and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.

On the final day, participants will have the option to choose between two specialized modules: one focusing on the regulatory aspects of blockchain, including global regulations, compliance, and taxation, and the other on the application of blockchain in wineries, which will cover tokenization, traceability, and transparency, among other topics.

The course is open to up to 50 participants who have a professional background in the vine and wine sector and are interested in advancing their knowledge of digitalization within the industry. Proficiency in English is a requirement, given the international profile of the lecturers and the course's language of instruction.

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by the 15th of April 2024 (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/blockchain_OIV), with a registration fee of 350€. A student discount is available, reducing the fee to 250€ upon proof of student status.

This OIV online course represents a unique opportunity for professionals in the vine and wine sector to stay ahead of the curve by understanding and applying blockchain technology in their operations. It promises not only to broaden participants' technological horizons but also to empower them to lead the charge in innovating and optimizing the industry's value chain for the better.
