Champagne producers shipped 266 million bottles worldwide in 2025, according to a statement released by the Comité Champagne. This figure marks a decrease of nearly 2% compared to the 271.4 million bottles shipped in 2024. The data was made public from Epernay on January 19, 2026, and reflects ongoing challenges faced by the industry, including geopolitical tensions, changing consumer habits, stock adjustments, and inflation.
Exports accounted for 152 million bottles in 2025, down slightly from 153.2 million in the previous year. Despite this minor decline, international markets continue to play a crucial role for Champagne producers, highlighting the global demand for the region’s sparkling wines. The French domestic market represented 114 million bottles in 2025, compared to 118.2 million in 2024. While this is a moderate drop, France remains the leading market for Champagne and is considered essential by industry leaders.
Maxime Toubart, President of the Syndicat Général des Vignerons and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, emphasized the importance of reinforcing Champagne’s position within France. He pointed to the quality of the wines, the expertise of producers, and collective industry efforts as key strengths that can help maintain and grow Champagne’s presence at home.
David Chatillon, President of the Union des Maisons de Champagne and Co-President of the Comité Champagne, highlighted the need for coordinated actions to support both domestic and international markets. He noted that a strong appellation and unified approach are necessary to keep Champagne at the forefront of celebrations and fine wine culture worldwide.
The Comité Champagne represents more than 16,000 winegrowers and 350 Champagne houses. The organization works to balance interests across the sector and promote cooperation between growers and producers. In recent years, it has focused on adapting to shifting market conditions while maintaining Champagne’s reputation for quality.
Industry observers note that while overall shipments have declined slightly, Champagne continues to hold a strong position in both traditional and emerging markets. Producers are expected to continue their efforts to adapt to economic pressures and evolving consumer preferences in the coming year.
